Paul: “Okay. Shayan you invited me over. And there’s nowhere to sit. Nowhere to stand.”
Shy: ‘Okay that’s fine. Just stand there you’re good.’
“What is it now? You called me over ASAP.”
Shy: ‘You see this in my hand??? This is the LAST staple in the Chain’
“Aaand?”
Shy: “look around you. I’ve been connecting the staples for weeks!”
“AAAND?”
Shy: “Its exponential staple theory!”
“AAAAND im leaving.”
Shy: “No no please don’t leave. I have to explain it first haha”
“Go on.”
Shy: “You see I not only kept interlacing the staples. I kept track of the effort, and the pain I went through. Each successive staple from 0-100 had the same effort and pain. But 100-500 had a big BOOST! Then 500-1000 had ANOTHER BOOST!…. then something strange happened.”
“… this is actually interesting. i hate myself for coming over again. but keep going”
Shy: “You see. Past 10K (10000) I began to encroach on the neighbors… they became very vexxed at the situation. They didn’t wanna listen to Exponential Staple Theory. So I had to devise ways around their houses. Then finally I hid them in the soil. And kept going until today. I finally reached the end… we got to 20,000!!!”
Paul: ‘And this is a metaphor for life? The number of generations since Epoch?’
Shy: “Exactly. I was testing to see at what point you hit the Wall. And have to start War to continue the Chain.”
Paul: ‘Hah imagine one of your neighbors was also connecting Staples."‘
Shy: “I hope so. That would be fascinating indeed! But this could explain the state of our world… It might not be political at all. We’ve reached a Stable Point in the chain. A plateau. And wars will start again soon.”
Paul: ‘Let’s get out of here and get a beer okay?’
Shy: “Ya I think its time I left this chain behind…”
P.S.
The value of each individual “link” in the chain, actually goes up Exponentially, because it Contains every single link before it. It does not go up linearly. Its weird to imagine but because its so valuable, the pain of the next addition goes up as well.
Perhaps it could be due to competition, since the ‘level’ one has to achieve to gain another link becomes ever more difficult. Of course some of this is environmental. Certain plateaus might be easy if there’s plenty of raw material. Times of difficulty include times of scarcity as well…
