Ya'll must remember Scott Young!
He got an entire MIT CS Bachelor Degree through online courses in one year. This guy was the OG. He did this through a very specific method, that he outlined through his blog throughout the year.
Then of course there was the Original OG himself, Tim Ferriss, that showed us what we could do by radically improving our efficiency. That was the entire premise of the 4 hour work week. To figure out a way to 'free' ourselves from the drudgery of work. Seems a bit charlatan to me, but he pretty much popularized the idea of 'passive income'.
A bunch of guys came after with Instagram, purporting to solve everything from Drop Shipping, to Crypto Scams, and now to AI. At the core of this is the human desire for 'freedom' from pain and suffering. This is the essential ingredient in all religions. These guys gain a following because they have a 'way' to deliver the freedom from financial stress - which is a big driver of pain for people in the modern world.
However, this is an overly simple way to look at the original people that wanted to solve this problem through self help methods - not solely gaining likes and followers. They would come up with thesis on how to improve the human being's *potential, which would of course unlock more output, and therefore 'free' us from financial struggle. By testing these hypothesis on themselves, guy like Scott and Tim showed us an achievable *way through hard work and discipline.
Don't get me started on Josh Waitzkin!
And if you haven't caught on yet... this is *exactly what the AI guys are selling to us now. "Imagine a world with infinite supply! Where everybody has everything..."
