On Belief Systems
The arbiter of all things,
the Real, True, Truth of all,
is difficult to ascertain.
Morality, Ethics, Virtues from above,
defined by debated.
Ultimately, You are living your life.
From an individual perspective, you are the arbiter of what you consume,
who you speak to, how you feel, etc.
And if we extend this a bit to our family, and our ‘values and ideals’,
being on this Earth once and only once, we gain a true ‘value stick’.
This probably isn’t good for me.
This probably isn’t good for my family.
And this definitely isn’t good for my values.
But if it isn’t good for you… then who is it good for?
Usually someone else’s values, goals, etc. That’s why they say: “why am I going to working and making someone else’s dreams a reality?”
Of course there can be alignment. We can work in groups. But we must be mindful of the benefit to all.
The other day, I was walking by an Earls, and I thought to myself: “every thing I’ve learned traveling tells me that going in there will give me nothing. The socializing will be fake, and most likely I will walk out having paid them 20$ that I need to save for my goals.”
So then why do I still believe that going in there will further my goals?
Marketing. They have created a belief system that: “Come to Earls, where the friendly staff and environment will awaken you. Enhance your goals.”
But that couldn’t be further from the Truth. The only real winner in an environment like that is the owner. Nobody else really. Eating cookie-cutter food without spirit, made by chefs that were hired yesterday, is that really the type of place that will lift your spirit? Give you new ideas, and improve your overall well-being?
I doubt it.
We must ask ourselves and people we trust for what is right, what is Good, and what we ourselves enjoy.
In the end, everything can be taken away, many many things are outside of our control, but our own value system, our own beliefs, is fully within our control.
