On Definitions
How many sci-fi novels
Do you have to read, until you're a 'sci-fi guy'
At what point does somebody become somebody
And which bite exactly, was the one that made you full?
The scary side of all this is that our habits really do make us who we are.
In an age where everybody is ‘obsessed’, absolutely, with ‘doing’, and sharing what they do,
These things are absolutely meaningless.
In human relation, the most important thing is not what you do.
It’s who you are.
For us autistic folks, we took a lot of time growing up learning to say the right thing.
How to shake a hand. Say hello properly and introduce yourself with a confident voice.
But these things are near zero.
What matters isn’t what you say when you get into the room. It’s what you were far far before you every even entered.
These questions of ontology are definitions of your very being.
To repeat: it’s not what you do when you enter the room. It’s who you are.
A lot of people have job interviews, and they do mental gymnastics asking: “what went wrong! how could i improve!” These are small percentages. It’s like Roger Federer tweaking his backhand a bit. But he’s still Roger Federer.
But these little tweaks to our game. To our interview. To ourselves, must mean something! Right?
They do as they are ‘quantized’ bits of your being. Who we are is an accumulation of everything we’ve ever done. And our ancestors have ever done. This is probably why people are obsessed with their legacy. It continues.
So when you’re kid acts out of line, show them an ontological chart of who they are. And how that little action, changes them slowly but surely. For the better or worse.
To become somebody,
and to become full,
is an added accumulation of little bits, until the concept that was without definition,
magically happens.
