On Emergence

imagine a vacuum

and some particles on one corner

they have some kinetic energy

pretty soon they spread to the empty spaces

okay so if two particles can’t take the same space

and it requires a ton of energy right?

then they need to be separated

and it takes enormous energy to go to zero

they’re always moving, eventually, they’ll take up new space

i was at apple, and they bought a giant plot of land in the middle of Cupertino

this land was full of concrete, and nothing important except some lame ass engineers you wouldn’t wanna take on a date or anything special

these guys got filthy rich, and extremely bored

so they thought: hey let’s build a standing spaceship

so they bought all this land, made a fuss of it, gutted the concrete

and hired a florist dude who had spent years tending to these tiny pinecones in his backyard

until one day his lucky break came, and a rich bored guy met him to take the gutted concrete and build the most beautiful/expensive garden man ever made

he said it himself to me one day on one of my walks where i’d pick apples from the trees and eat them raw like the good ol’ days.

“Steve Jobs hand picked me to build this park’s trees!” he said all excited.

so i walked around the garden, day in and day out,

almost as much as I’d code,

honestly probably more

i made friends that we’d meet up randomly on the trails.

what fun, in a 5Billion pet project to evade taxes!

why pay taxes when you can build the most beautiful garden ever made?

one day on my walk, i noticed some squirrels had come in

and some rats too, and beautiful birds, singing on the trails

so i met the florist and I asked: “where did they come from”

he said: “once we planted the trees, they moved in! all the fauna just showed up!”

and it was then I learned about emergence

perhaps maybe, just maybe, build it, and they will come?

or as the Kurds say: “Boni Kababi de” meaning once the smell of roasting meat is on the fire, the people will come.
