Opposing Reactions

I’ll never forget my friend Joel in High School. He was that friend that you have once and forget about. But for some reason Joel stuck in my mind because of this story.

So we had this Social Studies teacher right? His name was Mr. Little. In Canada we still at the time would call our teachers nice names. We were good little boys and girls that rarely made teachers cry, unless they were substitutes. But let’s be honest, they probably deserve it a bit.

Anyways, so i’m in Social Studies learning about History (albeit taught very well - the Canadian public school system WAS incredible at the time). I went to school with Doctors and Surgeons and Dentists kids. I mean look, we weren’t rich or anything, but come on? Little old me going to school and hanging out with Surgeons kids? Getting the same education? That’s pretty equal if you ask me.

But seriously to the point of the story.

We had these multiple choice tests. And Joel and I would always compete. He’d win I’d win. But nobody would WIN. Like absolutely blow the other out of the park.

Then one day I walked into class and I realized something.

If there’s always 4 choices, and to make it difficult c and d always seem ODDLY similar, with one word to really change the answer. Why don’t i always go with the OPPOSITE of what my gut tells me?

I started getting 97s on every test. Destroyed Joel Lau. Absolutely crushed the kid.

I ended up getting into Waterloo. Making nearly a Million dollars before i was 26. Traveling the world and having the time of my life.

I have no idea what joel got up to.

Was it all because of this one idea? Maybe. Perhaps. Could be!
