The Calling

It was May, and spring in Vancouver, British Columbia.

It was May, and spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. I had just finished paintball with some friends all the way out in the boonies, past Port Coquitlam. When I came back, luckily in the car ride, I fell asleep. And then when we got back, they were pretty tired, so they went back to their house to nap, and that's when I just got started, period.

You don't have to repeat it back to me every single time, just say got it, and then in the end we'll look at it, okay?

Okay, so basically, I got my coffee from the Be Fresh Cafe, and at that time, it was $2 Canadian $2. I know I'm in Canada, but I have to emphasize that it was $2 Canadian, exclamation mark, exclamation mark. Having lived all over the world, I'm the only person, wherever I am, I actually point out the currency that I'm looking at. So it was $2 Canadian for an americano. I went in, they all know me, and I got it, and I walked out with that americano. It was absolutely delicious. And on the way back, I was really ready to get some food because I still had barely eaten that day except for ice cream. So I go to this place called Cockney Kings. It's this British pub. I love the Brits, as you all know. I go in there, and I really wanted fries and coleslaw with my fish. So at the beginning, I started chatting up all the employees, talked to the employees, and I asked them, which fish is the best? And we went through every single one, the sizes, the different tastes, the pallets, the fishy smell, everything. That's how I found out which one was actually best. By looking it up in Google, I realized that haddock is actually the cleanest looking fish other than salmon. It's absolutely beautiful. The other ones kind of look like catfish and bottom feeders. So I think we made a good decision. Compared to the sizing and the price, it looked good. It was about $14 by the end of everything. And I really didn't want to pay for the fries. So as we were talking, I realized something. I learned earlier that if you actually tell them that you're going to write a review for them, and you're going to include the actual employees' names in that review because then it looks really good and they get promotions, that I would do that for them only if they gave me that coleslaw. So he just gave it to me right away in my hand. And I realized they had tubs of coleslaw. So much coleslaw, they didn't even know what to do with it. And it was such a small ass, but for me, it was so big that I could get a burger and coleslaw for only $14. That's like a really good fish burger that's delicious and clean, right? So they're really nice and I make it out and then I get out of there. I get the food and then they give me this giant box and say, hey, we also included fries. And I almost fell down and cried. And I realized that actually, the difference between homeless men and good men is very simple. That good men understand the flow of things. That some things have to go and some things have to come in. And you can actually get a lot of things in life for free if you really want to. And the only difference between good men and bad men out there is that the bad men don't understand that life has a flow to it and that's perfectly fine. And the only issue that they usually have is because they can't offer up very much, they get very little. And a lot of times they're living in regret and in pain.

So I got the food and I walk out with it and there's nowhere to sit because it's so busy. It's summer in Kitsilano now and the beaches are so, so packed. The entire restaurant was packed. There was nowhere to sit. So I took it out and I wanted to cross the bridge and go to downtown. But again, there was nowhere to sit. So I sat down on the lawn facing the first apartment that I ever lived in in Vancouver with my two best friends. Sat down and I ate my food as quickly as I could, kind of embarrassed that somebody would see me just sitting out there and eating it, but I was enjoying it. It was my little picnic. Anyways, so I wrap it up. I dump everything in the apartment because there wasn't a garbage can. So yeah, I definitely did litter. I don't feel bad about it. And anyways, as I'm walking, I hear something. This car is waiting outside. Actually, it's waiting in the traffic light with the windows down and the music was blaring and it was Greek music. And in that moment, I actually realized something. My heart was calling me. There was a calling from Greece. God was telling me that I have to get ready for my annual trip. My heart heard the beat and it began to thump and all the good memories came back to me of my time walking the islands, coding and writing and having fun and meeting great people and enjoying every single night of my life, taking the ferries. It was absolutely fantastic. And I heard it and I knew I'll have to get ready to go to Greece soon.
