The Value of Value
A reflection on writing, perception, and what gives two otherwise identical things radically different value.
It was Steven King’s book On Writing that changed me forever.
He starts the book talking about what writing even is…
I place a cup in front of you, it is made of glass, and smooth on the exterior,
rounded, it is the height of your fist.
The bottom has a larger radius than the top,
its form, like a teardrop.
Now I place this cup on the table to my left, and you are in front of me, sitting.
To my right, I place the exact same cup.
For the cup on the right, I drop a piece of Gold, exactly 100 grams in weight, the size of a dime.
It is the same thing with man.
