Who is Satoshi

Upon analysis of the Bitcoin white paper, and my own travels, I have a few statements on the identity of Satoshi.

I will outline the properties P below, and create a filter function that when applied, will produce a list of candidates for the role of Satoshi.

1. he is an academic.

2. he is a native English or near native speaker.

3. he comes from a wealthy country.

4. his academia is a mid tier to top tier University.

5. he was relatively young at the time of writing the paper. Anywhere between 25-40. At the time of writing the bitcoin whitepaper (2008), he could have been MAX 40. So his birth has to be AFTER 1968.

6. the country he comes from has native level English, meaning United States, Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Scandanavian countries, and Netherlands…

7. Satoshi had published a paper before the famous whitepaper.

What we need to do to get the first list of ‘candidates’ is to loop through every single University from mid to top in all the countries listed. We then need to look through all published papers from those Universities in areas of Cryptography, Mathematics, Computer Science. Of all of those papers, we scrape the authors, and we pass each author through all 7 of the properties. The ones that match, we output into a file of candidates.

So

(Academic) AND (NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER) AND (WEALTHY COUNTRY) AND (MID-TOP TIER UNIVERSITY) AND (born AFTER 1968) AND (country of origin in the list provided) AND (already published a paper before 2008).

We can prune this list by looking at all university papers that match this criteria. By looking at all the Universities in wealthy countries published papers between 2000 and 2008 from the countries listed, we are left with.

(NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER) AND (born AFTER 1968)

Once we have a list of candidates, we then look through all the papers AGAIN by those candidates, and we do an analysis of the words used against the bitcoin white paper.

Now this list of properties is only from the white paper. We can glean more information from reading his emails.

If I was simply to guess, I would say he is for sure not Japanese. And the English that he used, seems very much American. However, he could have been an expat in Switzerland based on the type and font. So I will guess that he is American born, but could have written the paper after studying in Switzerland Lausanne EPFLUniversity. But the speaker uses English from England, so after some thought, and reading the papers of Ian Goldberg, that is my guess!
